Role in the ACCENT project: Organisation of activities, contribution of resources, Local Citizens’ Debates
Techniquest's mission is to engage people with science and motivate them to learn more. Techniquest was established in 1986 and has become an internationally respected science centre based in a purpose-built award-winning building in the thriving Cardiff Bay area. It is one of the leading agencies in Wales in terms of innovation, partnership and activity in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) arena. Its primary focus is Wales, and it aims to fulfil its mission in a way that is equitable in terms of where people live, and in response to the relative need of different sections of society.
In 2008/2009 Techniquest reached over 300,000 people across Wales through its centres in Cardiff Bay and Wrexham (Techniquest Glyndwr), and its outreach programme for schools and public audiences across Wales. It works with school groups from age 4 to post-16 in line with the National Curriculum for Wales and also stages high quality interactive science shows and workshops for public audiences. Techniquest is committed to overcoming the barriers of distance and disadvantage and to enable all children in Wales to participate in science engagement opportunities.
