Two snow sculpture workshops on climate change will be arranged in two schools in Lapland, Finland. The first workshop will be during the 15-16th of March in Ounasvaara Elementary School in Rovaniemi. The second workshop will be arranged the 17-18th of March in one of the northermost schools in Finland, Kilpisjärvi Elementary School. The theme of the workshop is animals that are affected by climate change. The first day of the workshop consist of different kinds of preparations for making the snowsculptures. The snowsculpting takes place the 16th of March in Ounasvaara and the 18th of March in Kilpisjärvi.

The snow sculpture workshop is a winter workshop where school children are learning through creating environmental art out of snow and ice. Together with their teachers and art educators the children are deliberating on a theme and how to create an environmental art exhibit that deals with this theme. In this workshop the theme is climate change. The children participate in planning the snow sculptures by making models out of white clay and in sculpting them out of snow.

Through the process of creating environmental art out of snow and ice, the school children learn about snow and ice, about creating environmental art and about the theme they are working with, in this case climate change. They also have to cooperate together to make the snow sculptures. After the snow sculptures are finished, the sculptures also serve as an addition to the school playground. As the sculptures are made out of snow, the melting of the sculptures also provides an additional element to the theme of climate change as the school children will acknowledge and follow the melting of their creations.
